J-1 Summer Programme
The J-1 Summer work and travel programme allows students from countries outside of the US to participate in a cultural experience to learn more about the American culture, earn money to fund their education as well as to learn English. The programme runs primarily from mid-May through to early September. This time period is used for the convenience of the summer break. The program operates under the US department of states exchange visitor visa; which allows students to legally work in the US.
It is imperative that the participant is a student who has completed at least one term of their tertiary education and will be able to provide reports and proof of enrollment. The program operates under the US department of states exchange visitor visa; which allows students to legally work in the US. The DS 2019 is a required document which students will obtain from Laconic Cultural to obtain a J-1 visa at the embassy.
One of our main responsibilities here at Laconic Cultural Work and Travel is to secure a job with a comfortable work environment. Jobs available are usually in the unskilled sector of work in the US for our Summer Work and Travel. Jobs are available in sectors such as: The Hotel Industry, Restaurants, Amusement parks, Lifeguards, etc and can be in any of the fifty mainland states of America. We will ensure all participants receive and sign Job contracts which will include specific start and end dates, wages while in the USA, accommodation arrangements unless otherwise stipulated, transportation and uniform details, as well as any other specific requirements from employers.
The benefits of the programme are for participants to learn about the American culture; as well as to share your own culture and represent Jamaica. Laconic’s primary goal for the Summer Work and Travel is not so that students can earn money. It is required that they have a job however this is so that the student can support themselves while they stay in the US. One other benefit is also that you get to internationalize your resume.
